Putra tuhu is an elaborate five-day Telugu traditional ritual of worshiping the Hindu elephant god, Ganesha. It is one of the most important rites of passage in India celebrating the transition from childhood to adulthood. The ceremony begins on Thursday after a child finishes his fifth jutha (birthday) and ends with Durgashtami, or Ganesh Chaturthi, on Monday. The story behind this ritual is that Putra tuhu refused to eat anything until he ate at least sixteen different ingredients offered by his father's friends who came to wish his father good health. Every year, the ceremony starts on the fifth day after a child's fifth birthday and ends on Ganesh Chaturthi. The ritual is performed by an elderly Brahmin priest, who entertains and offers food to Ganesha. At the end of the ritual, Ganesha is fed "laddus". The few days of festival are filled with folk songs and dances. Mayapuram is known for its music and dance festivals called Pedda Kulakunta Mela (Telugu: పెడు కుల్కుట మే). The festival is held every year by the villages Sarapaka and Peddakapaka, which are parts of Mayapuram. It lasts for 10 days and includes folk songs and dances. The people of Mayapuram celebrate Durga Ashtami, which is like Dussehra where idols of goddess Durga (Parvathi) and other gods such as Ganesh (Ganesa), Lakshmi Narayana (Vishnu), Surya Narayana (Shiva), etc., are installed for 9 days in a grand manner. This festival is mainly celebrated in the month of October or November. The people of Mayapuram celebrate Navaratri which is a period of nine nights and ten days, dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga. This festival is celebrated in the month of September or October. The first nine nights are celebrated as Durga Ashtami, followed by Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami on Dashami day. This festival is mainly celebrated in the month of August or September. The first nine days are celebrated as Brahmotsavam, followed by Mahotsavam on the tenth day. This festival celebrates Lord Siva's marriage to Parvathi Devi(the daughter of "Daksha"). It is on this day that Siva performs "Thandava Nritham". The "Mandala pooja" is a 9-day ritual, dedicated to Goddess Durga. These poojas are mainly celebrated in the month of July–August. On the Padma Shukla Panchami day, special Poojas are performed for Goddess Durga and Navarathri ends on Vijayadashami day. In the Hindu tradition, Karaikudi is a small temple town in Sivaganga district, Tamil Nadu which is historically sacred for Hindus of South India. It was a place of pilgrimage where the waters from Kaveri River mingles with sea water from the Bay of Bengal. 8eeb4e9f32 60
